The By Design Collection — Valuable by Design, Connected by Design, Disarmed by Design

You were made on purpose, for a purpose — not assembled by accident, not left to earn your place. Each book in this collection reclaims one part of that design from the lie that you have to perform your way into it.

Read any one as a doorway. Read them all as a map home.

The By Design Collection

Why By Design

I spend my working life doing the patient work that comes before anything is built — searching for the governing idea beneath a project, the concept that explains why it should exist and why it should take the form it does. An architect learns that function and form flow from intention. Nothing well-made is an accident.

That instinct does not switch off when I leave the drawing board. It has trained my eye to look for intention everywhere. And the more carefully I looked, the more clearly I began to see it in the one place no architect can take credit for: the design of the human person.

We are not assembled. We are designed — made for relationship, formed to know God, and created with a purpose more foundational than anything I will ever draw. That conviction is the thread running through every book in this collection. Each one explores a different facet of God's design — our value, our need for connection, our capacity for peace, and our restored authority — and traces it back to the intention of the One who made us.

I write these books from the inside, not as someone examining these questions from a distance. I spent my twenties trying to prove a worth that had already been settled, and much of my thirties discovering how badly I had misread the design.

You were made on purpose, for a purpose, by a God who placed value within you from the beginning. Valuable by Design is the first book in this collection. It was written to reclaim that truth from the lie that your worth must be earned. Each book that follows will explore another part of the life God designed us to live.

One designer's attempt to point at a far greater one.

On the long-developing lens

These books are not new ideas. They are the articulation of something I have been learning for over twenty years — first as an architecture student who couldn't stop noticing intention in how things are made, then across two decades on the recovery side of the table, watching the same few truths set people free again and again. The lens took that long to earn. The books are how I am finally writing it down.

They will arrive steadily, one after another, because they are facets of a single way of seeing — not unrelated projects, but one long thesis told in parts.

The seeds are old. The writing is now.

There is a design thesis underneath this work — Relata, on how we were made in the image of a Maker. A separate path, for a different reader.
